HOD Bigger Hearts Check-boxes

I was recently contacted last week by Sherry who is also an HOD mom. She had found the character cards I made, and contacted me with an idea of her own. She had the idea to make check-boxes that would look similar to the HOD Bigger teacher's guide daily layout that you could check off tasks as they were completed. It was perfect timing, as I was just thinking that I needed a system. We had done a great job of completing everything, but last Friday we forgot to do science. I knew having a some kind of check-box system was necessary. Sherry's idea gave me a springboard for a few additional styles.

This was Sherry's original idea. She wanted the sheet to be printable, and to have check-boxes for a month, or 4 units. She loved the colors of the character cards, so of course I made it colorful :) You could, of course, print it in black and white if you want to conserve ink. You could choose to print these once a month, and use a pen or pencil to circle your competed tasks. I decided to laminate mine, so that I could use a dry erase marker if I wanted, and not have to print it again.

I also made this daily version for those who would rather have just one day at a glance. I laminated it, so that you could use a dry erase marker to add a check mark, and wipe it off easily for the next day.

As you have probably guessed by now, I love making things :) I wouldn't be satisfied to make something once, so I made it 3 times. Instead of check marks I made stars to mark each box.

I laminated the stars and page. I used velcro dots to adhere the stars. When we're finished with a task, we stick a star in the box. My boys liked being able to see what they had left to accomplish today.

Hopefully you aren't all starting to despise me for running your color ink cartridges into the ground. I buy them pretty cheap from ebay, or I'd go broke obviously! You can find the files for all 3 styles and stars here or here. You may have to print the star page separately because it is oriented vertically. Hope you enjoy these :)

I just wanted to thank you for sharing all your hard work with your fellow homeschoolers. This is my second year doing Bigger with my DD, going half pace for 2nd/3rd. I was just checking off the boxes in the manual as we did them, but I really like this system. I can put a little more responsibility in my dd hands, especially now that she's doing some of Bigger independently, while I work with DD2 on Little Hearts for K. Thank YOU!

Thank you all for your kind comments. I'm glad these can be of use to someone. Anything that requires work, is usually worth sharing :)

This is of REAL use to me, for sure! My little guy is a "box checker" and always wants to know "how much more" do we have to do. This is PERFECT!!

Thanks so much!! (You are an HOD Rockstar!!) :-)

I love the one with the stars! I've been trying to come up with my own and this would almost be perfect. Just that we don't do every subject every day. (We aren't using HOD.) But I want something visual like this so that they can see how much is left for the day. I was going to create a pretty checklist for each day. Hmmm, I'll have to work on it!

I love this. Would you mind if I changed the subjects to go with the Little Hearts For His Glory? Feel free to e-mail me at iteach1203@yahoo.com Great ideas~

Thank you so much for this! I love the star chart because my little guy is like Lauren's. He's always asking me how much more, how much longer. I was about to resort to work boxes but after seeing this I know all he needs is a visual just like this.

We are doing Little Hearts right now. Is there any way you can make one that can be edited to put the subjects we need on it? I just love this whole idea and it's going to save me tons of money and space.

Thank you again!

I have edited the file to reflect Little Hearts check boxes. If you would like me to send you the file I would be happy to. I converted it to Word so it would be easily edited. I have left the Monarch Room info on it and all formatting except check box names is the same. I don't wish to steal your design or not give you credit for the design. Let me know if you would like it so you can make it available here at your website.

Thanks again for the hard work. It will come in so handy for me as an alternative to work boxes.

What a great idea! I am also wondering about getting permission to create something similar for Little Hearts.

Would you mind if I did so, giving you the credit for the original idea?
Or would you be willing to make the changes so this would work with Little Hearts?

Thanks,
Dawn

This is beautiful! I know there were questions regarding formatting for the other guides. Did you happen to format these to work with LHFHG? I am using this with my 6 yo daughter now, and I know she'd love a visual aid to see how much she has left to complete everyday. Thanks for sharing your hard work with everyone!

I haven't made these for any of the other guides unfortunately. I will be making something for Preparing next year though :)

Thanks so much! This one I was able to open through Google and use. I appreciate it! I am going to modify one for LHFHG as well.

I love these different check off items that you have made! I would really like to custom make these to match our days without having to completely re-do them. Do you have these formatted in anything else like Word? I would like to make them for CTC and possibly include a few other subjects. If you could send these to me or load your Word copies on here (if you have them), I can share with everyone too! :) Stacey

Thanks! I made these in Adobe Illustrator. I'm sorry, but they aren't easily turned into a Word file.
