Week in Review - HOD MtMM Unit 33

Friday, May 5, 2017

This week our history was especially fun because we were reading about my childhood. It's strange when you realize that you are the history tale bearer for kids who didn't live during a period. I very much remember many of these events. My husband loved Reagan, so it was fun for him to discuss with Aedan more about his life.

A child of the 80's most memorable event was the Challenger explosion. I remember sitting in my classroom watching this happen in 5th grade. Aedan drew the Challenger out of one of his Draw and Write Through History assignments.

Assassination Attempt of Ronald Reagan - March 30, 1981

We listened to an interview that Reagan gave of the assassination attempt and his forgiveness of William Hinckley Jr. I hear he's up for parole.

Challenger Disaster - January 28, 1986

This is the memorial for the astronauts who lost their lives that day.

This is the actual footage of the launch. Somewhere in the bowels of my storage room I have a newspaper from this day.

We listened to Reagan's speech to the nation concerning the Challenger. I love that he spoke to school children in this address as well. He was such a class act.

Fall of the Berlin Wall - Novenmber 9, 1989 - October 3, 1990

We listened to Reagan's famous Berlin Wall speech.

I very much remember hearing these words back then.

Aedan read about the signing of the Nuclear Arms Treaty.

It was so fun to see Aedan's narration this week. He wrote about the trends of the 80's and 90's, all of which I remember like they were yesterday.

It was interesting to compare and contrast Reagan and Obama.

Aedan added another page to his Nature Journal. This week he read a portion of "A Song of Myself" by Walt Whitman. See you next time!

  1. I love seeing these posts as it's one of the programme's I can't wait to get to. I've been avidly reading a few of the posts on the forums to see if there will be any updates to the president portion.. mind you, but the time we get to it we'll likely be in the throws of another campaign season. Yikes.

    1. The president resources have been updated since I bought mine. We printed a picture of Trump to put on that final 45th president. The boys thought he looked so different in comparison to all the other presidential portraits. I was thinking how we would be in a new election season by then too.

  2. I just love seeing the beautiful artwork and fun things you and your boys do each week. I can't believe you are almost through for the school year! It flies by.

    1. Thank you Megan! This year truly has flown by. It's such a happy-sad feeling <3

Thank you so much for visiting :) I adore hearing from you!
